Help Mrs. Peterson

I teach public school kindergarten in a city in Illinois. We have a highly diverse, highly mobile population. We are diverse across cultures, races, socio-economic statuses, and abilities. I teach all subjects from math and science to writing and reading, to all students. We have a high population of special education and special needs students with inclusive classrooms.

Music! My students love music! We are unfortunately only able to participate in a music class every other day for 40 minutes - this is not nearly enough! We love to sing, dance, play, and read to music! We are lacking the equipment to allow the students to use and manipulate music and music technology independently and integrate music into our daily routine regularly. We need equipment that students can easily manipulate, but that is durable enough to be played over and over again. We have gone through hundreds of Cd's, each one more scratched than the one before.

The solution to our problem is an iPod! Students can practice using this new technology, and can use it to play music 1,000 times over without wear! To complete the music experience, we need iPod speakers, so that we can listen as a class, and we need a new music collection that won't skip when we play it!

With your help, we can become the musical community we strive to become. We can sing, dance, keep rhythm, and read to music. We can listen to our favorite songs over and over again, and play musical games to our hearts content!
