My students need diverse and compelling picture books for our community building challenge. Each day we will read and discuss one book, building relationships, trust, and engagement. Diverse books open students' minds to the world.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are ready for books that can change their lives. They've grown up around books but have fallen out of love with them as they've grown, entering the confusing world of middle school. My goal is to surround them everyday with books, words, and ideas that challenge them, surprise them, comfort them, and change them.
I teach at a prek-12 school in downtown Phoenix with a majority of our students being English language learners who receive free and reduced lunch.
We strive to encourage them to see their futures as attainable and important. We believe all of our students will graduate from college and then make an impact on their community.
My Project
Every year, new and impactful children's books are published. Access to these new titles will allow my students to interact with the world around them. As older students reading picture books, they are able to delve deeper into the book's theme and analyze its impact on their lives. They need diverse books that showcase the lives and experiences of other children around the world. They need complex stories that challenge their thinking and open their minds to new ideas.
These books will highlight the issues they are facing, and the issues faced by children around the world.
'Flowers for Sarajevo' will expose my students to a world issue they aren't familiar with and spark deep conversation about beauty existing in the midst of violence. 'Thunder Boy Jr.' will highlight the Navajo people of our state and provide diverse characters for my students. 'Shark Lady' highlights a career in STEM that many of my students won't be familiar with. The possibilities for discussion are limitless!
Daily read alouds will engage my students as well as reignite their love of reading. Help us read a #bookaday!
