Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has experienced numerous changes throughout the past several years. Transitioning from a school that educated students in the Star of Hope program to a magnet school focused on providing an enriching health science curriculum in a community-centered way.

Many of our families are still struggling with the effects of Hurricane Harvey.

Our school is looking to establish programs that all for the student's opportunities to focus their minds on something different. Through cycling, it will not only exercise their bodies but relieve much-needed stress.

My Project

My students and I are so excited that Chevron is hosting this grant! The weather in Houston is so unpredictable. My goal is to be able to obtain six CycleOps bike trainers that my students will have the ability to ride, no matter what the weather is like outside. We either have to contend with temperatures above 90 degrees for long periods or we are rained out due to flooding.

This will allow us to keep a regular riding schedule, or simply prefer the safety and convenience of riding inside, an indoor bike trainer is a valuable tool for our students.

Another great reason for us to use the trainers is for those students who are not that comfortable on bikes. It will give the students the ability to practice shifting gears in a controlled and safe environment.
