My Students

I feel that being able to dissect rather than using pictures is will possibly have the students remember more and easily see how everything is stored in there.

Many of the students come from a very low income household.It is from PreK to 6th grade.

We have about 1,200 students.My school and district are facing extreme budget cuts therefore anything that is not reading and math takes a backseat. My students enjoy coming into the Science Lab, my classroom.

My Project

I have asked for a class set of dissecting tools, class sets of frogs, crayfish and owl pellets. The dissecting tools could be reused each year for other students to use in the following years. I feel that if I could have these materials for my students I could show them that Science is important. I could give them a hands on learning experience as well, this could help them learn this information better. This could make then become more interested in different fields of Science.

Last year I dissected with my students and they LOVED it.

They continued to talk about it until the last day of school.However, I had to buy the dissecting things myself, I could not afford that many so the groups were very large. I felt that this was a disservice to my students because they had to share with larger groups, as big as 10 children in a group.These donations would allow my groups to be MUCH smaller, possibly only 3 in a group. Thus giving the students a better learning experience.
