This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal is to cultivate a classroom where creativity knows no bounds, where students can bring their ideas to life with the touch of a button. What I love about my scholars is that they are unafraid of expressing themselves in their work. I truly believe it is critical to their development to foster this in two principle ways: Creating clear connections between class activities and our course objectives through a comprehensive approach; and maintaining high engagement through a customized learning environment.

I respectfully request your support in the purchase of a Cricut machine for our classroom.

Students will utilize the machine in their projects throughout the year. In this process, they will be challenged to think critically and creatively. This multidisciplinary approach cultivates collaboration, problem solving, and meta dimensions to the work they have already done, as I will prompt them to consider “what is most important about the topic? How can I best display it?”

The Cricut will also enhance the visual learning experience. My scholars will exercise agency and ownership by being able to directly influence their physical learning environment. Further, it is our responsibility to empower students with all forms of learning styles, and designing consistent, appealing educational materials directly benefits all levels of visual learners. I will also be able to design material that complement our classroom activities, directly benefiting hands-on learning and leaving the unattainable expense of purchasing pre-made resources behind. Overall, a cricut can be a versatile tool that adds a creative dimension to my teaching while empowering students to engage actively in their learning.
