Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Cursive is a beautiful way of writing and students are keen to learn how to do it. It has been striking, throughout my career, watching the writing of my students get incrementally less legible. Add the pandemic into the mix and what you get is a generation that needs cursive for their brain nourishment, the pure aesthetic, and to be able to read the primary sources of our founding documents. I am requesting two class sets of cursive books that I can teach my sophomore class, this beautiful art.

When writing in cursive, both the left and right sides of the brain are activated.

Students who can easily get frustrated with writing seem to enjoy the process of cursive. The entire class quickly settles and the process of cursive becomes almost meditative. Cursive was a rite of passage growing up and sadly, this rite of passage is no longer experienced by American children. After learning cursive, the art will be incorporated into future writings and projects so students are actually required to use it.

Lastly, American students should be able to read the foundational primary source of our country, the Constitution. Students can do so much more than they are required to do and thrive on challenges. We are so grateful for your support.
