My Students

My students attend a school in a suburban environment outside of Columbia, South Carolina. 54% of my students come from a minority background and approximately 50% receive free or reduced lunch. My students have plenty of exposure to technology, and I want to enhance their learning experience by having engaging science books to help them understand my science curriculum.

These students come from very different backgrounds and have a range of talents, abilities, and dreams.

They come to me for sixty minutes a day, five days per week. Having current science titles to access will open up a whole new world for these kids!

My Project

My students think that Google is the be-all, end-all resource for current events. I hope that by bringing Time Edge into my classroom that these students will see that there are well researched articles out there that explain current events on their level.

Time Edge is an electronic resource that will bring current events alive in my classroom on my students' reading level.

It is my hope to utilize this resource as frequently as possible so that the students can understand the importance of checking valid, well-researched news sources.

By bringing Time Edge into the classroom, I am also helping these students to gain literacy into their content area, in the hopes that they understand that reading is important in all content areas.
