This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How did it feel when you were in school and it was Reading Time once a day and you always read from the same book? It was boring, wasn't it? Well that's not what I want for my class. I want them to be excited about reading all day, every day and reading from different sources.

My children are between 4 and 5 years old.

For some of them, being in Kindergarten is their first experience in school. They are excited about learning. They want to learn, they want to succeed. Many of my students are not exposed to different types of reading materials at home. That can change with Weekly Reader.

My Project

It"s amazing to watch. My children love when it's Weekly Reader time, just watching me sort them after they arrive in the mail is exciting for them. In the beginning of the year, I do most of the reading and they help by elaborating on the pictures. As they learn their first word I begin to read less. The more words they learn, the less I read. It is a fabulous feeling to sit back and let them take over the Weekly Reader. They don't even realize they are practicing their reading skills.They are just proud to be reading the Weekly Reader and learning about Columbus, or Groundhog Day or Bears, whatever the topic is that week.

With Weekly Reader and your generous donation, we can help these children learn to read without them even knowing it.

They can take the skills they learn at Reading Time and apply it all day, every day. My children will not be stuck reading the same media. Weekly Reader will help keep them motivated and excited about learning. We need to keep that excitement going, we need to make them want to read, with your help, we can do that. We can give a love of reading EVERYTHING!
