Help Ms. Stork

I teach intervention reading to grades 3-5 in an inner city elementary school. My students come from a high-need community and lack many resources. They receive free or reduced lunch and many of their families are unable to pay for educational magazines. My students need variety. We are asking for magazine subscriptions to spice up our reading routines. We have no magazines in our classroom right now. We need classroom subscriptions to Weekly Reader, Current Health and Time for Kids. These magazines will motivate students to read and take an interest in world events and broaden their minds. I find that my students know little or next to nothing about the world around them. I would like my students to learn about what is happening, not only their community, but also within the nation and within the greater world. The magazines will be used to reinforce Literacy skills while introducing them to global issues. With these magazines, my students will be able to practice their reading, inferring and writing skills. I will also use the magazine in Social Studies to talk about the different cultures around the world. Your donation will make it possible for students to take an interest in reading and an interest in the world as a whole. So many of my students do not have a clear idea of what is happening in the world. These magazines will help students to discover more about the world. With your help, generosity and kindness my students will be introduced to the world. They will be able to read, understand and explain a variety of topics that are important.
