Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

In sixth grade Social Studies, students survey the histories and cultures of the continents in the Eastern Hemisphere. Students learn about government, geography, culture and religion. I would like to add a current events component to the class for the 2007-2008 school year to help students get a better understanding of how world events impact their lives in the United States. Current events articles help to make lessons "real" for the students, but it is difficult to find informative and engaging articles written on a middle school level. I am requesting a class set of one-year subscriptions to "Time For Kids: World Report Edition." "Time For Kids" is a wonderful resource featuring well-written articles and fun learning activities that will bring world events to my students in Corona.
