Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a hardworking group of kids with a great attitude. They recently returned to in person learning and are very excited to be back in the classroom. They arrive every morning prepared for the day. They are resilient and optimistic and are ready to learn.

My Project

My project will help my second graders love to read. Falling in love with stories or reading about their interests is what gives purpose and meaning to sounding out words and decoding what is on the page. Kids who get to pick what they read learn to love books and not see reading as a chore. It is also so important for kids to read a book that is neither too easy (they won't learn anything) or too hard (they will become frustrated and abandon the book). The wide variety of books in this project serves different interests and reading levels aimed at our diverse readers. It will build literacy skills, develop stamina, and foster a love of reading.
