My Students

In any given year, over 150 9th grade students walk through my doorway hoping to learn something from me. These students come to me with differing personal and academic struggles, and I strive to help them grow and flourish as students and individuals.

On any given day, students walk through my door seeking advice, comfort, direction, support, compassion, inspiration, and so much more.

They will come from many different walks of life and academic experiences and hold numerous opinions different from those around them.

My Project

My classroom library isn't intended as a primary classroom resource. I will not require students to do daily assignments with these, although I can foresee book talks, creative projects and classroom discussions revolving around the success of these books. If my students begin to talk more about the books they are reading, then this project is a success in my eyes. I have seen success in the past with J.K. Rowling, Veronica Roth, and James Dashner, but many of my pleasure readers have already read those, and we already have access to those in both the classroom and school libraries. I hope to encourage all students in my class to read books by the various authors I am requesting.

These authors--of the likes of Leigh Bardugo, Renee Ahdieh, Kekla Magoon, John Feinstein, Nic Stone, Ruta Sepetys, and Neal Shusterman--have attracted large followings, and I hope to accomplish that in my classroom as well.

History, adventure, sports, fantasy, mystery, Disney...this list of books has a little bit of something for everyone, even my pickiest of readers. I will have no trouble helping each student find a book to read and a character to love. And once they have that author in their hearts, I'll have the other books to keep them hooked.
