My Students

My students, as so many others, are struggling during this time of distance learning. While they have been provided with tablets by the New York City DOE, the materials available to them varies greatly, child to child, and there is only so much that can be meaningfully learned by watching a screen.

These creative and sweet kids are eager to learn and providing them with additional resources will have a big impact on their kindergarten experience this year.

My Project

This donation will allow each child to experience, first hand, the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. It will also give them the skills needed to take care of a living thing. The kids have been so excited to learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly and this was supposed to be the culminating experience of the year for us in school. Since we are not at school, your donation will allow students to have this experience at home while they are quarantined. Many students hardly leave their apartments while New York City is quarantining, so this would be bringing a really magical experience into their homes and provide a joyful final memory to their turbulent Kindergarten year.

Giving each child a caterpillar kit will bring to life everything we've learned in our butterfly unit, and give them a meaningful and memorable real-world experience.

Some students have never seen an actual live butterfly--so this will be an especially exciting and impactful experience for them!
