My Students

The demands today for rigorous and relevant activities are extremely high in our district, even in pre-Kindergarten classrooms. My students need additional "hands-on" math and science centers to help meet those demands.

My students are EXCITED to come to school each and every day!!

They always have smiles on their faces and are curious as to what we are going to be learning about each day. These students are all considered "at risk", meaning they have qualified for our pre-K program. We are located in a Title I school that is considered high poverty. Our school is awesome, yet we are always looking for more resources to improve the quality of each child's educational experience. I teach 2 sections of pre-Kindergarten. Each session is 3 hours long and 5 days a week. Students come in either the morning or afternoon session. I have 19 students in the morning class and 21 students in the afternoon class and one instructional paraprofessional. We are located in Kansas.

My Project

Since the beginning of the school year, we have implemented math and literacy stations into our daily routine. Last year our district provided us with many resources for our literacy stations. They had hoped to provide us with math station resources this year, but due to budget cuts from the state, that was not possible. With only 2 adults in the classroom and 4 math stations, we are in need of wonderfully created materials (hands-on math centers) that our students will be able to work on during this time. Two of the stations are teacher-directed and the other 2 are independent. The kids also participate in "center time" daily, which is independent/group exploration. This is a time when kids can explore their own curiosity. I have never had very many science activities, and these instant learning science centers will help my students explore and learn in exciting ways. Both of these math and science centers will help the students tremendously with their math and science skills.

The journey through a child's education begins in pre-Kindergarten.

We set the foundation for them. If we do not set a strong foundation and instill a love of learning in them, we have failed them. We have to create that strong foundation for them to succeed. These children are our future. I want them to have the best and nothing less. The more "hands-on" activities my kids have, the more learning will take place in our classroom! Thank You!
