Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a bilingual English/Spanish Teacher of speech improvement who works with students with disabilities diagnosed with various speech and language disorders. Many of them come from Spanish households. Many of them also present with difficulties in literacy and phonological awareness.

My Project

Due to the poor availability of materials in Spanish, I would like to provide my culturally and linguistically diverse students with materials made in their home language. Many of my students lack phonological awareness which is the precursor of literacy. Research has demonstrated that good phonological awareness skills in the home language transfer to English easily. The Cricut machine I need will help me to create materials specifically made for them in their home language. Both in-person and remote students will benefit from this. Also, this will give me the opportunity to involve my non-English speaking parents in their child’s education.
