My Project

My 2nd grade ICT class is working hard to catch up and to improve their reading comprehension, despite some of the deficits that have occurred due to the pandemic. I am excited to help my general education and special education students find their love and passion for reading, even though it can be easier to dislike something that they struggle with. My wish is to build them an incredibly rich and robust class library, where they can read about people and characters that look like them, and who have had similar experiences to themselves and their families. By creating a more culturally diverse library, students will have many opportunities to connect to the characters in a way that they haven't always been able to do. This can often be the first step in getting them excited about reading.

Our school has made a conscious effort this year to incorporate Social Emotional Learning activities into our weekly routine.

The students have been learning so much about themselves, from understanding their emotions and how to control them, to learning how to be kind to themselves and to others. By adding Social Emotional Learning Books to our classroom library, students will be able to continue to explore a variety of topics on their own that will continue to help them build character and a deeper understanding of self.

This set of books, which include diverse characters and topics, social emotional learning topics, and samples from popular children's series, will fulfill my goal of creating a brand new can complete library for our classroom, with a wonderful variety of books for my students their many different reading levels and learning goals.
