This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 18 pre-kindergarteners are eager students who enjoy learning about their immediate surroundings as well as exploring materials presented to them through art and creative expression activities. Their favorite part of the day is being able to use varied art mediums such as colored pencils, chalk, water and acyclic paint to freely express themselves in the art center and at the large easel.

Through my love of travel and the arts, my preschoolers have begun to cultivate a love and fascination with the works of Claude Monet, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Michelangelo, Georgia O’Keefe and Auguste Renoir.

During our daily center-time portion of the school day, I encourage my students to reflect on and consider what an artist might have been thinking about when they were creating and completing their art piece. It is always a pleasure to hear my pre-kindergarteners partake in the daily Turn and Talk activity while responding to and asking their partners questions about famous artists. Questions such as, “what would Michelangelo paint when it snows in Italy?" , “why do you think Auguste Renoir like to paint flowers and people far away?” are just some of my top favorite student questions this year!!

My Project

Your assistance is needed to aid my inner city pre-k students unlock their creative potential by gaining hands-on experiences that they normally would not be exposed to. My goal for this project is to implement a monthly parent engagement artist study workshop to allow my pre-kindergarteners and their parents to work together recreate a famous artist's paintings/ drawings while learning about art history, the artist's life as well as the painting/ art techniques the particular featured artist of the month used during his or her art period. Materials such as art canvases, acrylic paints, paintbrushes, construction paper and water paints are being requested to be used to aid my pre-kindergarten students gain real life experiences to further cultivate a love for art.
