My Project

At 24th St Elementary, we believe that even the smallest actions can create a big impact. That's why we're asking for support in launching an exciting initiative that not only empowers our students but also contributes to a greener, more sustainable world.

Imagine a future where food waste becomes a thing of the past, where young minds are nurtured to think innovatively and act responsibly.

This is the vision behind our Cafeteria to Compost program. We're thrilled to embark on this journey of education, hands-on learning, and impactful change – but we can't do it without your support!

What's in store for our young changemakers? Through the project, our students will actively engage in:

🌎 Food Redistribution: Our students will work as Cafeteria Captains, monitoring our Share Table and rescuing surplus edible food from our school cafeteria that would otherwise go to waste. This food will be redistributed after school to those in need within our community, fostering empathy and reducing hunger.

🌿 Composting Adventures: Our kids will get their hands dirty (in the best way!) as they learn the art of composting. They'll witness firsthand the transformation of food scraps into nutrient-rich soil, cultivating an understanding of the natural world's cycles and the importance of sustainability.

🔬 Innovative Engineering: These young minds are the future problem-solvers of our world. They'll be challenged to design and implement new methods to capture food waste right at the source – our cafeteria. From brainstorming to prototyping, they'll be refining their critical thinking and teamwork skills while making a tangible impact.

Your generous donation will directly fund essential tools, such as sifters to create finished compost, garden gloves to keep our students' hands safe, a microscope to closely examine soil microbes, and materials to beautify and promote our Share Table.
