Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine how exciting it would be to learn about Monet, Van Gogh, and Matisse in first grade. Before our art teacher retired, she gave the school her prized art videos in hopes that classroom teachers would continue to do art lessons. All I need to make art in our class a reality are the supplies.

Our wonderful school is located in sunny, Southern California.

My first grade students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. Our school has won many prestigious awards. We are a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence. Funding extra projects is difficult because we do not receive money from a Title I program.

My Project

The art supplies I am requesting can be used to enrich reading, science and math lessons in first grade. For example, we read stories about weather, and animals. During these units, I could teach students how to draw snowmen and people holding umbrellas during a rain shower. For both projects all I need are the oil pastels. The Plaster of Paris would be used for a variety of lessons including learning about the phases of the moon and also to make a model of the planets, moon and sun. The math rubbing plates would help students with counting and addition skills. During our insect unit, students could use the rubbing plates to create amazing art murals which would inspire stories and reports about each insect. In first grade, students enjoy using colored pencils instead of crayons to create murals, collages, and drawings using their imagination.

We miss our art teacher.

However, I have the ability to teach art to my students through the use of video lessons our art teacher left behind. Each lesson uses a technique from a famous artist. All I need are the supplies that I have requested. Please help us bring art back into our classroom. Thank you for your consideration.
