Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Help our high school alternative students learn valuable life skills while preventing drop outs! We know that for our struggling students, hands-on projects are key to our success. Cooking and nutrition is our focus with this project and we have a new culinary kitchen classroom to learn in.
Our students are at our school because they were unsuccessful in the two larger traditional schools in our district.
Our students come to us with a variety of life issues and setbacks, and we work hard to individualize their program and address boundaries that may be keeping them from their potential.
For our students, proficiency/project based learning is key for their success. Our students must see value in all tasks set before them, for them to engage. We strive to incorporate service learning as part of our school program to help build in respect for ourselves, our school and our community.
My Project
We are fortunate that as part of a school cafeteria remodel, our district is setting aside space and appliances for a small culinary kitchen classroom. Our students are very excited to start cooking and learning valuable nutrition content.
Every year for Thanksgiving we host a family meal that is provided by adult volunteers, that come in and do all the cooking. This school year will be the first year our students will cook for their families a huge Thanksgiving feast â" all with the skills they are learning through this exciting project.
Please help us get started with a few supplies of commercial grade cookware such as pans, spoons and knives. I have requested culinary supplies and accessories so our students can learn cooking and nutrition life skills in our new culinary kitchen classroom. We will add to resources as the years go by, but need your donation to this project to make this work.
The students at our school typically do not have family support to teach them valuable life skills like healthy cooking.
We strive to teach our students how they can cook highly nutritious meals even on a limited budget.
The rapport that is built when students are engaged in this valuable learning experience is what keeps them in school and wanting to reach their goals towards graduation. Thank you for all of your support in our efforts to support our students!
