My Students

Our school is a Title I elementary school located in Brooklyn, NY. Approximately 600 students are serviced from Pre-K thru Grade 5. The school has two sites, including integrated co-teaching classes and self-contained classes. The population of children consists of 90% African-American, 7% Hispanic, and 1% white. There are 53.23% females and 46.17% males. Many are in need of public assistance with more than 80% of the students receiving free lunch.

Our goal is to ensure that all of our children become critical thinkers and are given every chance to become leaders of the 21st century.

The mission of our school is to guarantee that all children are given the highest quality learning experience that will allow them to reach their full potential.

My Project

Our second grade students will be introduced to computer science.

We will use a coding program, Scratch Jr, that needs to be run on a tablet.

I am asking for 10 tablets so a class of 30 students can use group programming, 3 per tablet.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education, is an integral part of our education. Our students need a chance to explore computer science, develop a passion and prepare themselves for college and career readiness. The future is STEM and our students need the hardware to explore the software. Tablets will allow our students including special needs and English as a New Language Learners to develop 21st century skills.
