Crossing Over into Poetry

My students need a classroom set of the book The Crossover to help enhance our upcoming poetry unit. My students love to read books that are connective to their culture, community, and everyday struggles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a freshmen English class at a very large high school. The students that I teach, slightly over 100 in a day, are mainly composed of Hispanic descent.

They are always trying their hardest as well as trying to further themselves in regards to having opportunities to succeed.

Books are always the answer!

The majority of my students receive free and reduced lunches, so they do not have the funds to buy new and exciting books to read.

My Project

My students need books that are highly motivating and interesting in order to get them to focus on the lesson. The book, The Crossover, would be a beneficial resource because it is interesting and relatable for the students. The students will begin studying poetry and it would be wonderful if we had a book that could cultivate student engagement. The students could apply their lessons in poetry to a captivating novel that is written in verse. As the students read this exciting novel, they could apply figurative language and other useful literary devices. This is one resource that could enhance student enagagement and learning.
