My Project

This school year I am working with other staff members to start a crochet club. Although the club will predominantly meet after school I will also be offering it to my students during enrichment and indoor recess. Crocheting is something that all students can participate in. Crocheting helps improve focus, concentration, and perseverance. Crocheting also uses math skills to count out your rows and figure out how large your project is going to be. Once you get the hang of how to make a stitch crocheting can become a fun unplugged coding activity for students to design their own patterns and create items that they need.

The goal is for students to learn a new skill to be able to make a hat, scarf, dishcloth or another item.

Along with yarn and hooks, I choose items that also come with stitch markers and needles so that we would have all the supplies we might need regardless of what project a student is working on. I also added some loom hooks as we have some looms, but no hooks for students to be able to use them.
