Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are spending the week of October 21 learning to crochet coral reefs to raise awareness of their importance in the world's biodiversity. Our goal is to submit our class coral reef as a satellite exhibition to the crochetcoralreef.org project which uses artwork as a response to climate change.

Not only is this an advocacy project, but it also addresses students mental health needs.

Crocheting has been shown to reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and mental acuity. Couple this with snacks on hand, and there will be some happy teenagers!
