My Students

Our students come from hard-working families who don't always have a lot of money. They're good kids who want to learn! I'm proud to say that, despite our challenges, parents in other areas of our city send their children to us because they know we have a learning environment here.

We work hard at our school and we know that learning must be enjoyable to be educational.

We get our hands on our learning every chance we get. It could be using Cheetos to dust 'pollen' from flower to flower, dancing out our anti-bullying rap, or forming an island out of play dough to demonstrate our landforms.

My Project

We don't all learn the same way - that much has been clear for decades (if not longer). Education has somewhat adapted to this idea over time. One thing that has not changed, though, is carpet time.

Everyday, in every classroom in the country, kids sit on a carpet.

And every year, I have several students who are just growing a little quicker or aren't quite in control of their legs and arms for whatever reason. These kids aren't misbehaving or getting smart with their teacher. This past year my highest performing student simply hated sitting criss-cross and explained, calmly as could be, that it was uncomfortable for her.

So, if you didn't (or don't!) like sitting criss-cross, or if you can sympathize with a kid who is growing at a different rate than everyone else, these seats are a perfect chance to help students be comfortable for their learning for years to come.
