A typical day in our classroom is full of learning. We sing, play, read all while learning important lessons. I try to help my students have a passion for learning so that when they come to school they are excited and eager to begin!
My students are first graders with a hunger for learning.
They are full of energy and enthusiasm. In a school that strives for academic excellence, I have a classroom full of eager learners. We don't always have access to all of the materials that a normal public school might have so I try to make due with what we are given.
Think about going to sit on the "rug" for a story time, but you have no real rug, it's just the floor. There's 26 six year olds all trying to pick a spot and don't quite understand personal space. Now bring in a rug that has colored squares on it. I have the ability to give kids a specific spot. Or release tables and tell them to find a "green square" on the rug. They have a specific area to stay inside of and everyone has a place to sit.
This will help my students immensely because it will help us focus on what we are learning.
There won't be an argument over who gets to sit where. Or the complaints that somebody sat on someone else or is too close. It will allow us to focus on the learning that is going on. It will cut down transition times, which in turn allows for more learning to be done.
