Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students I work with are full of joy! Although some of my students come from limited resources and have behavioral, medical, and academic needs, they crave learning and structure. Many are balancing English as a second language, so meaningful materials that appeal to all learning styles are key. Some of the students live in group homes or foster homes and it can be a challenge to find motivating activities that will engage them. In addition, my students enjoy hands-on learning materials that they can manipulate to gain sensory input.

My students are creative learners and this extends to how they access their curriculum in unique ways which include VOD access, picture icons, gestures, AAC technology, vocalizations, verbalizations, communication core boards, and other functional methods of communication.

We are trying to bring the Time for Kids Mission of the Month (Kindness) to life in our classroom by asking for a Cricut, so we can make personalized kindness cards, notes, and stickers. We would like to work with our students on their pragmatic skills through Time for Kids' Spread Love Mission: Kindness. Our special education students are working on mainstreaming with their peers and creating kindness cards would be a great way to bridge the gap and unite them together. We also want to create a safe calming corner for our students to request breaks as needed. The Cricut would allow us to effectively label fidget manipulatives and calm down cards for students. Thank you for helping us spread kindness!
