My Students

I teach mostly West Indian students who come from immigrant families in Brooklyn, New York. The neighborhood I teach, Canarsie, is also the same neighborhood I grew up in. While our cultures may be different, I too grew up in a working class family and found my school to be part of a larger family for me.

I love teaching at this school.

Most of my students have been here since pre-k which means that now that they are in our middle school, we have been together for almost nine years! It warms my heart to think that I am part of a larger family for them.

I love bringing materials into my classroom that enrich student education, foster creativity, and support differentiation.

My Project

Crafting awaits! Each year I have a group of middle school girls in my after school club. The past couple of years we have done crocheting and painting wood pieces.

The girls are very talented and modern.

They are ready to explore more advanced types of crafting. They would LOVE to create T-shirts for their various programs and teams, especially. The vinyl and heat press will help them to create t-shirts, totes etc. The Cricut will help them learn valuable software and graphic design skills.

Funding this project will give us some variety in our creativity and skills my kids could take with them in future endeavors.
