Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a caring, insightful group of 23 students who are dedicated and super excited to be back in-person learning in their classroom. Of my twenty-three students, thirteen are English Learners, ranging from Newcomer English Learners to students who are now considered Long Term English Learners, having been in the EL program for five years or over. Three of my students receive RSP Resource Specialist Services support for English Language Developing and math skills, and two students are attending IDEC, Intensive Diagnostic Education Center. My students are predominantly of Latino background.
My Project
My students enjoy good storytelling and are learning to express their own creativity by brainstorming ideas and cooperating to become better writers. The supplies I am requesting are going to help build cooperative learning, creative expression, and aid the creative writing process to compose narratives. The bright dry eraser colors and notes, as well as the supplies requested, will entice my students' creativity and allow them to build a community of wall ideas to draw from to write their own stories. I use Thinking Maps organizers in our classroom to help my students develop and organize ideas to use for their writing. The sticky notes and paper and all the supplies will allow me to create a writing center that will provide my students the tools to help their thinking process that will lead to writing their story.
