Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are wonderful children who face daily challenges with learning due to disabilities and other factors. Living in low income households, many of their families struggle with financial hardship and limited resources. Some of my students are non-verbal and have Autism, which can also make learning stressful for them.

Despite their challenges, my students love to learn new things about the world, nature, their neighbors, and themselves.

Their desire to learn and remain engaged in therapy sessions and activities encourages me to step 'out of the box' and find creative ways to build on their language skills and support them and their families.

An iPad is a necessary tool that, coupled with alternative communication software, can help my students learn to express themselves clearly, especially those who are non-verbal. I also create most of the materials that I use in my lessons and as learning incentives, as I use a multi-sensory approach that is customized for their particular needs. This can get very expensive. The Cricut materials and sensory toys help me fill that need.
