This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am attempting to give students a creative outlet to replace the art program we lost. As a math teacher, I was given the opportunity to create a new crafting class that will be based on entrepreneurship through handmade and upcycled crafts.

Our most ambitious project, which is the science of candle making, requires soy wax, digital scales, and thermometers.

We will also be creating many projects utilizing resin. Students will be creating their own projects using either epoxy resin or UV resin. We also will be completing a unit on designing custom cups through several different mediums. Some projects will use sublimation, others will be hand drawn, etc. Many of the supplies requested are PPE, as many of our projects require hand protection as well as protection for the classroom furniture.

I hope that you will consider donating to this much-needed supply list. At the start of this school year, our campus, like many others, suffered the loss of teachers and programs due to cutbacks. Our school is a safe haven to many creative students who use art as an outlet to express themselves and relieve the stresses of rough home lives. Losing our art program was devastating and emotional for all of our students. I hope to partially replace this loss with a fun class on the art of handcrafting that also inspires entrepreneurship.
