This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach transitional Kindergarten in a suburb of Los Angeles. My school is located in a low-income area. Most of the families my school services speak English as a second language. My students are in the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. This program will help them develop their brains and physical skills along with their social and emotional skills. This will help them be better prepared for the academic rigors in the years ahead.

For many of my students, this is the first year they have ever been in school.

My students have always been eager to learn and love to ask questions about the world around them.

My Project

The dramatic play equipment that I am requesting will help my students develop social, emotional, critical-thinking, academic and problem-solving skills that are essential to learning in early education. I am asking for a market stand and a washer and dryer to improve on my dramatic play equipment. Having this equipment will give the children more opportunities to act out scenarios where the children are interacting with each other.

At the age of four and five, children need dramatic play, which gives the children the opportunity to practice their skills in social interactions and problem solving.

Acting out scenarios allows English language learners the chance to practice their oral language and English skills. Some scenarios also give children the opportunity to practice math skills, such as pretending to work in a market. The equipment I am requesting will help to create more scenarios and opportunities to practice these important skills.
