This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first grade students have been busy tackling the Common Core First Grade Standards while also concentrating on their specific I.E.P. goals and objectives focused on their language, emotional, and physical needs.
I teach in a high-poverty area in a public city school.
My first graders need grit to face daily challenges both in school and their surroundings. A typical day has my students focused on language, math, Spanish, science, while also receiving intervention services in reading, speech, occupational therapy, and more!
My Project
My students are not only practicing the first grade Common Core math standards, but also receiving math intervention based on their specific areas of growth. I customize the math materials they use doing our Guided Math (small group) block. Our activities include collaborative "peer practice" to encourage developing language and social skills while tackling the math standards! The ink, cardstock, colored pens, and book rings are used to create color-coded math cards and sorting mats. The pom-pons bring joy while serving as quiet math manipulatives! These motivating materials will help my first graders become first-rate mathematicians!
Using these materials means my students will get exactly what they need to grow as mathematicians!
As each skill is mastered, the materials go home so my students can practice and retain these important skills. Your donation helps tremendously so I can reach all learners! Thank you very much!
