This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in a Title 1 school, 2nd grade bilingual classroom. My class is a very diverse class composed of newcomers, students who had interrupted education because of political issues in their country, low income families and some of them coming to a school for the first time. Most of my students are between 7-8 years old. My students are little artist that love to draw, color and scribble, but a lot of them struggle with their writing and reading skills.

The Creative Writing in a suitcase is a project that will help students enhance their imagination and creativity in order to acquire their writing skills in the English language acquisition.

Students will use different color markers, color pencils, paper, crayons or stamps to express their thoughts by drawing and writing sentences about the book read in class. The creative writing suitcase will have stickers, flashcards, stencils, erasers, color paper, pencils, glitter, glue and a copy of the book inside the suitcase. We will start writing simple sentences using prompts that will help students with their thoughts. Later on students will write paragraphs, summaries and opinions. The goal is to be able to create your own book report using the materials like stickers, glue, scissors, paper, colors, crayons, tape, glitter and presented to class. Using these materials, like glitter, washy tape, stamps, plastic googly eyes will encourage the students to express their ideas every time they write or read a book.

My students are very special in their own way, they are dreamers with lots of ideas on what they would like to do when they grow up, they are eager to learn, they like to share their thoughts and experiences (good/bad) and have a lot to offer to this world.
