My Project

My students are 18- to 2-year-olds with various disabilities, and they come from diverse and historically marginalized racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a part of their transition programming, students explore and practice job, community, and recreation and leisure skills in many different settings. In music therapy, students explore and build upon their relationships with music.

This spring, my students will have the opportunity to audition and perform in a talent show.

Our goals for the show are to give students an experience practicing for a community-based recreation program, give students opportunity for self-expression and creativity, and strengthen students' self-esteem. The microphone stands and microphone covers will support all students at our program in their auditions and in practicing for the show. They will also support students in using their voices creatively in music therapy sessions.

Another great way to explore and use voices in music therapy is through the use of a stretchy band. A medium stretchy band will allow our smaller groups of students to explore their voices and other creative ways to engage in music through movement, tactile stimulation, and visual stimulation.
