Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our exposure to aesthetically pleasing music experiences as children impact us for the rest of our lives. My students can use the unique sound of the Ocean drum and the dancing ribbons to feel and experience music in a new way. We would also like to add a chime for signaling transitions.

Our student population is in a high poverty area, with the majority being Hispanic.

The students are sweet natured and appreciative and have supportive families. They are hard working and have a strong love of learning. Chorus has almost 100 students involved, and there are students who are also involved in strings and dance.

My Project

We will be able to feel musical phrases, melodic movement and tempos using the ribbon streamers. The Ocean drum will give us endless timbre possibilities to enhance songs with an ocean theme or rain theme. The chime will allow us to use a pleasant tone to signal transitions in the classroom or refocus attention.

The ribbons, drum and chimes will have a lasting impact and can be used every year.

In a school of over a 1000 children there is opportunity to touch the lives of many children through a music donation.
