Help Mr. N.

I currently teach at Leadership High School. Leadership is part of the San Francisco Unified School district, and serves 85% low-income families. Due to continued cuts in state along with the current lack of federal support, we have experienced many changes and have had to cut many things out of our daily and yearly activities. Unfortunately, one area in which Leadership is affected is its ability to provide resources for students attending a yearbook course. It is truly sad that our students miss out on the many extras that form important memories and experiences attached to this period of their lives, and is especially true as they daily face many struggles and challenges. Looking back on our own memories, often it is the images in a yearbook that stimulate the period known as our adolescence. There are many memories of friends, dances, etc. The students at Leadership High School will not have the pleasure of having a yearbook to help document these memories. I would like to change this outcome. I believe that with the appropriate resources, the yearbook course will give students the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and dedicate themselves. The Yearbook course will be planned, executed, and produced by the students for students. Together with the support of the staff, we believe this dream will come true. In this proposal I am requesting assistance in purchasing digital cameras designated for the most crucial component of the Yearbook course, Cameras. Students enrolled in the class (20) will, will learn the art of photographing events, lay-outs, and digital editing to work toward the final product through hands-on experience and experimentation. Using digital cameras is key, as they allow students to easily edit and choose the perfect picture. This will allow students to learn through direct experience with little to no expenditures as they view pictures on the camera or a computer. I am requesting your assistance to purchase 5 digital cameras, memory cards, tripods, Through this project I truly believe students will learn to work together toward a common goal. This will work to give students experiences to communicate with adults and fellow students, to schedule and look forward toward an end goal and finished product to which they can feel pride and accomplishment, and to be able to encapsulate these memories forever. Your help will be invaluable toward this goal and appreciated by the all 400 students attending school this year, and hundreds of students to follow in the years to come. Most important, as these students grow up and move on in their lives, they can always look back and remember that they had a hand in helping others to remember.
