HI! I teach first grade in a low income school. Most of the children in our school are on free lunches and can't afford to pay for their school supplies. I have purchased items from the list during the year to keep on hand when a child runs out of glue or crayons, etc, so that I can just give it to them. This year I had several children that did not bring anthing off the list except for a box of cheap crayons. Giving children the opportunity to create wonderful art work can be expensive and require a lot of materials that are disposable. I find that it is hard to deny a child materials because their parents, teacher or school cannot buy the supplies needed. Yet, I cannot afford to personally buy all the items for every project that we want to make. We use construction paper and old copy paper for most of our projects. I have 20 adorable first grade students that love to make things. My children would benefit from the materials on a weekly basis and be able to enjoy making projects from materials that would not normally have access to. I would love to be able to offer them other materials to create art work besides crayons and markers. We are asking that you help us purchase materials such as: wiggle eyes, pom poms, pipe cleaners, foam sheets, paint trays, tempera paints, paint brushes, modeling clay, styrofoam balls, stickers, colored paper, scissors that cut designs, chalk, glitter, sequins, die cuts, water color paper, craft sticks, stamps, ink pads, ink dobbers,play doh,ribbon, rick rack, felt, anything that can create art!!! These items are used to create many art projects throughout the year and become expensive to replenish. I teach art three days a week every week and most of our projects consist of construction paper, crayons, and markers. The children would be able to use the materials that you donate to create beautiful pieces of art that they can cherish with their families for years to come!! We love to create things that go along with what we are learning, such as butterflies made from coffee filters and markers. We also make gifts for their parents, and ornaments during the holidays. WE would love to let our minds go wild if we just had the supplies to create!! THANKS for taking the time to read our request.
