Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Everyone has seen the photos of what a government-funded classroom looks like and what a teacher-funded one looks like. The bare walls of the classroom I walked into this year were nothing short of depressing.

I looked around and thought how can 25 little first graders be excited about coming to my class?

These materials will make a huge impact on my students. The aesthetics and art supplies will give my students ownership of this room and make it feel like home! I imagine reading books about butterflies in science and using cellophane to create their own mosaic butterfly. Most of my students have limited English proficiency and having art supplies to help them express themselves through art projects would begin to bridge the language gap in my classroom.

I think about students posing in front of the faux garden wall with the neon sign holding up their projects and work they're most proud of. I imagine sharing these photos with their families to bridge the gap between home and school.
