Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help!!! Our first graders are starving for creative stimulation! They are lacking fine motor skills! They crave beauty and art!

Our 60 energetic, kind, hard working students are begging for creative experiences!

They work hard everyday building their reading and math skills. During recess they love to run, scream, roll down hills, slide, chase and kick balls. Sometimes they want to slow down and create something beautiful.

Luckily, we have resources to help them develop their math and reading skills. Sadly, art supplies are not as accessible.

Our students do not go to art during their specials rotations. Unfortunately our days are packed with rigorous instruction in core subjects that do not allow for creative experiences.

Our solution to the lack of creative opportunities is to turn recess into “art recess.” We have an art cart that we take outside for students that want to explore their creative side.

We would love to make weaving available to our students during this time. With your help in providing these resources, our students can explore color and design while socializing with their peers as they create colorful potholders to take home. These experiences will also help them develop the fine motor skills that many of them are lacking.

Thanks so much for reading about ways to support our high poverty students and caring about their needs!
