My Project

Organization is a vital part of the learning process for the students in my class to be productive, creative, and successful in the classroom. Each student has a folder where we keep classwork, schedules, and handouts. Each student also has a notebook for writing prompts related to the literature we are currently reading. In these notebooks the students write poetry, create text-to-self connections, and receive feedback from me and their peers. Having a notebook and a folder every day inside the classroom sets the students up for success -- the students who do not buy their own supplies will not be at a disadvantage, students will not loose their work, and a routine is set in place, hopefully encouraging good organizational habits in their academic future.

In my classroom we also complete many creative projects: posters, drawings, and group work.

Working with markers and other art supplies is the best way for students to interact with their peers, visualize worlds different from their own, and think outside of the box.

My students are special because they come from many backgrounds, have different skill levels, and approach what I am teaching them in unique ways. My students always speak their minds, write beautiful poetry, and many fall in love with literature and language because of the activities we do, and the conversations we have; none of this would be possible without books, markers, and basic supplies.
