My Project

My colleagues and I have chosen to have students work on content areas in Environmental Science. Their first content has been very involved by requiring our students to be creative using colored pencils, markers, rulers, etc. while decorating Biome maps & Ecological organization foldables.

We are very limited when requesting colored pencils meaning we can only order 1 or 2 boxes at a time and each box contains 12 pencils.

When we have 25 to 30 students in each class, colored pencils are few and far between. Some students have to settle for the "next best color", when they clearly wanted to use the color red for something in their work but doesn't every student choose red? Why not? Red is a bold and expressive color as are many other colors. Either way, all students want their work to stand out.

This is what makes them all special; the way in which they choose to express themselves while working on the same assignment is very rewarding. As their teacher, I want them to be expressive and diverse. Providing them with ample color choices through various writing/drawing tools will help them be successful while doing so with the numerous choices provided by DonorsChoose.org

My goal for this project is for students to break down the levels of biological organization including organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems, and biosphere. My hope for them is to learn the levels but have creative fun while doing so.
