Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are such hard-working, kind, and fun children who benefit from hands-on and novel ways to learn. I am fortunate to have the most amazing group of students who are working on the critical skills needed for school success through speech therapy addressing basic reading skills, thinking skills, listening skills, and communication skills.

The materials and tools would help tap into my students' unique multisensory learning needs and motivate them to keep making progress toward their speech therapy goals.

Attending a low-income school, our children do not have access to many resources and your contributions would greatly impact their communication gains. Many of my students are struggling readers and I have selected a program to help them with these foundational skills through research-based approaches. By opening the door to their interests in being "super readers," they will be able to explore more of the world around them. Exploding the code and the multisensory pop-it tools will help the children practice their sound and word reading skills in fun and engaging ways. Additionally, building the students' verbal communication skills with visual supports such as picture scenes and picture communication symbols will assist my early and pre-verbal speakers to have scaffolds to communicate their needs, wants, and ideas. I also create many materials and visual supports that students use in their classroom and my speech therapy room. Laminating sheets are quite useful in keeping materials durable and reusable for my early communicators.
