Creative Coders

My students need Makey Makey kits, and robots to learn the basics of computer programming. We are preparing our students for a digital world. Students will use these hands on robots and tools to learn coding basics.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third graders are curious learners and perceptive thinkers. They want to understand the world around them and contribute in a meaningful way towards a future that is bright with possibility. They face many obstacles in our urban neighborhood but with the right tools and opportunities they will soon be our future inventors, leaders, and decision makers. Many of my students are technology consumers at school and in the community, but this year as computer programmers they will learn how to be producers and creators.

My Project

These resources will allow my students to learn the basics of coding and expand their knowledge of a digital world with kinesthetic tools. The programmable robots will allow students to practice the skills they are learning in their computer science classes in a small group setting. Students will be able to write computer code that brings the robot to life in our classroom. Having multiple tools will allow my students to work in small groups. This will build their critical thinking and cooperative problem solving skills. Additionally it will help their language skills and allow them to be innovative and creative. My students will begin to make tangible connections between the technology they consume in their community on a daily basis, and seeing themselves working as producers and creators in a digital future. The robots and Makey-Makey will improve their math and reasoning skills in a form that is relevant and engaging to them. These resources have limitless potential in the hands of these little geniuses. I am excited to see where their problem solving and creativity leads us as a class and a school.
