Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a middle school art teacher in Illinois. I teach at a charter school that is striving to teach inner city kids the value of education. Being the Art Teacher, I have the opportunity to teach and get to know all the students in the school. Since most of my students come from low-income homes, my goal is to teach all of my students that Art is something they can be successful at, thus boosting their self-esteem.

Being at a charter school, or any school for that matter, we have very limited funding. The budget I have to work with is simply not enough for my 500 students. Therefore, I need to be very frugal when I place my supplies order at the beginning of the year. This year, I was only able to order very basic supplies, thus, we will only be able to create basic art projects this year.

Therefore, I would love to have some "special" art supplies, so that my students could create art projects that they have never done before. Also, the paint and canvases I would like to have will be used for our Spring Art Show, when we will hold a silent auction of the paintings to raise funds for the Art Department.

With your help, my students will be able to use special art supplies, such as the charcoal pencils and weaving looms, to create new and exciting art projects. You will also make it possible for the Art Department to raise additional funds with the paint and canvases we will receive.
