My Students

The long awaited 100th Day of School is quickly approaching! Let's celebrate it creatively!

My Sensational Second Grade students are predominantly from inner city Los Angeles, low income and limited English speaking homes.

Vocabulary development tends to be one of my main areas of focus with them as it will assist will all academic and nonacademic areas in their lives.

My Project

Many of the items I am requesting (sun visors, lacing items, and colored chalk) will be used to help us celebrate the number sense we have been building in style! I try hard to develop cross curricular activities for my students and the 100th Day of School is a perfect day to do this. Every year my students create different types of 100 Day necklaces using yarn and cereal. Although students normally love this activity, I always feel it is a shame that their creations are only able to last temporarily. I'd like to give my students the opportunity to create a lasting souvenir of this second grade experience.

Often the 100th Day of School is a K-2 experience.

Since my students are second graders this means their 100th Day with me will likely be the last one they have. Many of the materials I am requesting are for long lasting souvenirs of this special day will last me not only this year, but for a few future years of students. These creations my students will make with the materials will hopefully also be long lasting for them as well!
