This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class full of 20 excited, eager, creative Kindergarten students. They love exploring and creating different things with their innovative minds. My biggest challenge is stretching my budget enough to give them adequate materials for enrichment.

I teach in a school that is 98.4% free and reduced price lunch.

My kids are passionate about school but they have very few opportunities afforded to them to help them break that poverty cycle. The blessing in our demographics is that we all work hard and think outside of the box to provide our students with a wealth of opportunities that they will not get at home. Despite their challenges, our students come in excited and ready to learn every day. We have a very high attendance rate and a lot of parent involvement. The only thing we are lacking is funds to allow these students to get the rigorous experiences that other more affluent students receive. Art is not currently a class offered or required in Kindergarten. However, I am required to teach art at least once a week. I want to be able to provide all of my students will some great tools they can choose from to create unique artwork.

My Project

Art is not an extra class that is provided in Kindergarten in my district. These materials will help give my students more experiences with art and creative thinking. The students will be able to use the paint and paintbrushes to create posters for projects. They can use the feathers, paints, and googly eyes to create masks for characters to retell a story. I have chosen the dot makers as a more hands-on tool to do different lessons like alphabet recognition and number recognition. Overall, these materials will help my students use a more creative approach in their learning. These art supplies will help them become innovative thinkers and give them the opportunity to plan and select materials based on their ideas. I'm excited to see how engaged they become with just the addition of simple things like paints that we do not currently have in our classroom.

These donations would improve my classroom a great deal.

For one thing it would make my sweet students so excited about learning. It will help them learn how to plan and carry out ideas because they will have materials they normally don't have at their disposal. It will help them practice being more creative and innovative. It will give them the chance to explore trial and error and how to overcome when your plan doesn't work. Finally, it will allow them the chance to just be a kid.
