This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is full of bright-eyed, beautiful children who are excited to learn. The majority of them are low-income and many of them are coming to pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten already behind. They are ready and eager to learn new things and to have new experiences.
Our school is located in the city of Detroit and we are a Title I school where all of the students in the school qualify for free lunch.
Many of our students eat breakfast at school as well. This is the beginning of their educational experience and I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
My Project
I am asking for a number of different art supplies to allow my students to explore their creativity at home. Many of my students and families are so focused on math and reading that they forget how important art is.
This project will allow students to explore their creative side using visual art as well as music.
All of the musical instruments that I have asked for will be used in conjunction with the music instruction at home. Students have been working so hard this school year this will give them the opportunity to enjoy school.
