My Project

This grant project aims to foster creativity and community building among students in grades 6-12 by providing essential supplies for felting activities in the library. The requested items, including felting pads, felting needles, assorted colors of wool, and containers for organizing, are crucial for facilitating a hands-on and engaging creative experience.

Our students are naturally drawn to creative projects.

Every year I begin by teaching a few students how to felt and suddenly I have more and more students coming to school early to learn how to felt and create projects. This project would provide more supplies, such as felting tools and a way to organize student projects. It’s wonderful to see students put their phones down and connect and build community with each other in a positive and creative way. The library becomes a safe and inviting space for students to express themselves, make friends, and collaborate on creative projects.

My goal is to organize the supplies and materials so that more students can be a part of this creative activity. Every day I have another two or three students asking to learn how to felt and I would like to find more and more opportunities for students to be a part of this activity. Not only are they learning a creative pastime but they are building community.
