My Students

I teach in a rural area in the northernmost part of California at MP Elementary. We are an active bunch who work hard at learning.

“Learning how to program didn't start off with wanting to learn all of computer science or trying to master this discipline or anything like that; It started off because I wanted to do this one simple thing -- I wanted to make something that was fun for myself and my sisters" ~ Zuckerberg.

My students’ creativity, innovation, and persistence continually amazes me. They love working on projects together and coming up with ways to demonstrate their learning. One of my goals, as a teacher and for this project, is to continually improve our classroom so that it is an environment that truly facilitates the learning of my 21st century students. Having these materials will allow my students increased exposure to STEM, science, technology, engineering and math activities.

My Project

This past April I had the privilege of attending the CUE (Computer Using Educators) National Conference in Palm Springs, CA. During the conference I was inspired by keynote speaker, Hadi Partovi, co-founder of Code.org, to incorporate computer programming into my curriculum. For the past two years I have participated in Hour of Code using the resources available on Code.org. This coming year I would like to step it up a bit by giving students the opportunity to create with code.

Students will connect their digital projects to the physical world by using Scratch, a programming language, Makey Makey Kits, and other supplies to create games.

Students need many opportunities to “make,” and these materials will provide limitless possibilities. This will open a whole new world to my students.

Contributing to this project will allow my students to explore, create, and share at the next level. I will be able to create high interest projects that will foster collaboration and creativity to explore math, science, technology and more. Thank you for your donation!
